Direct Stock control

Face-up

The process of bringing products to the front of the shelf in order to display them better. Stores will also do this when there is insufficient stock to fill the shelf front to back. Product labels should all face the front so customers can read them easily.

The number of identical products placed next to each other at the front of a shelf, facing toward the customer.

Feature space

A space used to sell our best offers usually found in the foyer or at the end of an aisle.

Feet on the floor (FOTF)

An opportunity for people based at head office to work together with their colleagues in store to learn about our customers and the operation. Usually taken around Christmas, to support stores at their busiest time.

Previously known as Tesco week in store together (TWIST).

File maintenance control (FMC)

Fill from time

The time a store should start filling shelves from.

Previously known as demand time.
Stock control

Fire assembly point

The point where all staff should assemble if there is a fire alarm.

Five-star weekend

A weekend when we expect stores to be extra busy, for example, a Bank Holiday.

Fixture

This is a permanent space for displaying stock, for example, shelving.

Flat-top

A trolley with a table-top.

Fleximat

A promotional space in Extra stores.

Stock control

Format

A type of Tesco store, either Express, Metro, Superstores, Extra or Homeplus.

Four-point check

A check done by a member of staff on the shelf-edge labels to ensure that the information on the label matches the information on the product. The information checked should be the pre-marked price, Tesco product number/ European Article Number, the product description and the weight or size.

Fresh food

Products that need to be stored or displayed at a certain temperature, including fresh meat, fruit and vegetables, milk and bread.

Frozen food

Products that need to be stored or displayed at a temperature of minus 25 degrees Celsius.

Future store

A store designed to operate as efficiently as possible that includes all the timesaving layouts, processes and equipment available within Tesco to date.
